Photo Walk Saturday April 23
Posted on April 18, 2011
We are excited to announce our first ever photo walk. We will be meeting in City Park in Appleton at 10:00 am. We have a couple of interesting locations to shoot at. One of the things we are most excited about is the sharing of knowledge. So even if you don’t know anything about photography you should be there. Camera brands don’t matter. We hope this will be the first of many photo walks.
Software We Use

We edit our video using Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. Both are excellent programs and there are features I like and don’t like about both. For DVD and Bluray disc delivery, we use Adobe CS4 Encore. This software does an excellent job with both formats of DVD creation.
Computers we use

We have several computers, all macs. I have 2 machines I use for editing. One is an Intel Power Mac tower. I do most of my editing on this computer. I have a total of 13 terabytes of hard drive space. I also have 2 drive enclosures setup that are raid drives, so I will never lose anything that is on them. Although this seems like overkill, we shoot everything in HD and then copy the files to 2 different drives and so space gets full very fast when we are in the heart of the wedding season. Most of the drives are external esata drives. I also have an external Bluray burner. I also have a 27 inch Intel Imac, which I have been using to edit on. Along with our own weddings, I also edit weddings for other companies and I use this computer for that. It presently sits on our kitchen table. Janell is really pleased about that. Editing is a very tedious process. We normally do 10 weddings or so per year and I can also edit up to 15 or 20 more from other companies, so it is really important to make the process as interesting as possible. Being able to pick up the Imac and edit in a different part of the house is really nice and breaks up the monotony somewhat. Along with these 2 computers for editing, we have an older Imac for our bookwork and a laptop.
Cameras we use

We currently have 3 Sony Z7 cameras, which shoot in HD and SD. They record to Compact Flash cards, as well as tape. We have been recording to the cards as well as the tape. We find that the tapes offer us an easy backup solution. We rarely have to go back and use anything from the tapes, but it is nice to know they are filed away. Once the files are copied from the cards, the cards are re-formatted, so it can be a bit scary if you don’t have some kind of backup of the files. We do copy the files to 2 different hard drives though. The cameras have been awesome for us. We did have to learn to shoot everything in the manual mode and that took some time. They are also a bit heavier than our old cameras and bigger. Very solid cameras.
We also have a Canon 5d Mark II DSLR camera. We use this camera to get the pre ceremony, some of the exterior, pre reception and some of the dancing at the reception. It is a very exciting camera to use and mixes very well with our Z7′s. This camera takes beautiful video as well as 21 megapixel still photographs. I wish we could use this camera for everything, but at this time it is just used for some of the special shots.
